Ask the Clinicians

In this section, clinicians from our practice and colleagues will respond to your questions. For example:

Q: What is a heel spur?

A: The most common heel spur occurs on the bottom of the foot along the back edge of the arch and the front edge of the heel.  In most cases it is caused by over load to the plantar fascia which causes it to be over stretched during standing activities.  Because the plantar fascia has a 'root' into bone of the heel (known as the origin), when it is stretched it pulls along that 'root'.  In an attempt for the body to sustain the stress placed along the origin of the plantar fascia, it causes bone along the heel to grow outward following the 'root' of the plantar fascia origin- creating a tooth formation.
